Double Award Winner ‘The Crooked Billet’ announces a quintessential
English night to celebrate St George’s Day
Ryehill, United Kingdom – April 18th, 2008 – The Crooked Billet in Ryehill (Nr Hedon) will put St Georges day firmly on the map as they announce a special English themed celebration to take place next weekend (Saturday 26th April) – a night to remember.
The pub will be decorated in red and white to represent the St George’s cross, and the existing menu will be complimented by a special selection of ‘100% English’ dishes, such as Cromer Crab Cocktail, Cornish Pasties, Traditional Ploughman’s Lunch, Devonshire squab pie and deserts such as homemade Rice Pudding, Scones with Clotted Cream and Jam and of course an English cheeseboard. The dishes will be using as always, as much local produce as possible. Peter and Jackie Ling have also recently appointed a new farmer/butcher, Maurice Hunt, who is based just down the road from the pub in Halsham, who supplies the meat which comes from livestock that is traditionally fed.
Peter told us: “We will be pulling out all of the stops this year. We’ve planned a special English menu using the finest ingredients and there will also of course be English Real Ales on offer – we have two special ones for this celebration - Hook Norton 303AD (the year of St George) and Marstons Dragons Tale. I am a big believer in England and our customers know about our focus on local produce and passion for English Real Ale.” The Crooked Billet recently won the CAMRA Village Pub of the Year Award and was runner up in ‘Best Cask Ale Pub of the Year’ – they are well known both locally and nationally for their commitment to real ale, the English countryside and local produce.
The St Georges celebration takes place on the evening of Saturday 26th April with the special extra menu (normal menu is also available), and culminates with a live singer and Ryehill’s very own version of ‘Last Night of the Proms’, where customers can join in with a rendition of ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ accompanied by lots of flag waving!. Table bookings are recommended for food, although all are welcome for the entertainment and sing-along, and English fun and games (such as Kings and Queens and a very special Slay the Dragon).
